
About SCIMUN
SCIMUN was established in 2016 by Mark Shen (QSI senior) and advisor Kyle Mims, with the hopes of becoming an international platform for civil debate. Following the motto: “student-led, student-initiated, student-involved,” SCIMUN actively promotes student empowerment, and our three-day conference holds the wellbeing of all participants to the highest degree. We seek to provide a positive atmosphere for creative discussion, collaborative work, and powerful expression. Despite our short history, we guarantee professionalism and expertise. That is the tradition we uphold.

2016:
Sustainability
The first establishment of SCIMUN 2016 championed Sustainability, holding an all-green conference with 120 attendees. Delegates came from China to Belize to congregate in the Shekou Nanhai Hilton in
Shenzhen.
2018:
International Security
With the focus on International Security, SCIMUN 2018 sought to promote awareness of these very real global issues that threaten the peace. Over 150 students participated in fruitful debate.
2020:
Redefining Authority
Although SCIMUN 2020 was canceled due to the outbreak of COVID-19, following the theme of Redefining Authority, SCIMUN 2020 had planned to task 180 delegates to challenge themselves to define authority and address the themes of injustice and rebellion in their committees, critically thinking and developing their global mindedness.
2022:
A World For All
Due to sudden Covid-19 lockdown, SCIMUN 2022 was hosted virtually under the theme A World For All. Regardless of the platform, over 100 delegates engaged in debates to create a world for all.
2024:
Confronting Humanity
Under the theme Confronting Humanity, SCIMUN 2024 invites delegates to explore the intricacy of human nature in its relationship with the challenges our world faces today, in hopes of finding the right path towards peace, equality, and prosperity.
2026:
Minds in Motion
This year, under the theme Minds in Motion, SCIMUN 2026 challenges delegates to tackle global issues shaped by conflict, innovation, and change, while exploring solutions that push humanity toward a more conscious and connected future.
Under the theme Shaping the Future, SCIMUN 2025 challenged delegates to solve global issues and explore solutions that will guide future generations toward a more sustainable and equitable future that will shape tomorrow’s world.
2017:
Rule of Law
SCIMUN 2017 followed the theme of Rule of Law, exploring the necessity of civil discourse in a post-truth society. The administration upheld all the values of the first conference, commended for its professionalism.
2019:
Global Development
Under Global Development, SCIMUN 2019 committed itself to growth and to fighting apathy, hoping that each and every participant experienced some form of character development. Students from 11 schools convened at the Hilton one last time before SCIMUN moves to the Marriott.
2021:
Supressing Disorder
Despite the challenges of Covid-19, SCIMUN 2021 was successfully hosted under the theme Suppressing Disorder. Delegates were able to directly experience the impacts of "global disorder", utilizing their capabilities to create solutions in a time of distress.
2023:
Restoration & Innovation
Under the theme Restoration & Innovation, SCIMUN 2023 was finally held in-person again under the theme with 120+ delegates from eight different schools across China, housing lively debates to both "restore" unsolved conflicts and fuel the drive to an "innovative" future for the global community.
2025:
Shaping the Future
Under the theme Shaping the Future, SCIMUN 2025 challenged delegates to solve global issues and explore solutions that will guide future generations toward a more sustainable and equitable future that will shape tomorrow’s world.
SCIMUN X CABINET TEAM

Nellie Chen
Secretary General
Nellie Chen is a senior at QSI International School of Shenzhen. She is from Taiwan and has been raised in Shenzhen for as long as she can remember. She has participated in several MUN conferences as delegate, chair, and officer. Outside of SCIMUN, she is the Vice President of Science National Honor Society, a member of the student council, and a member of Mu Alpha Theta. She is excited to serve as Secretary General for SCIMUN XI and hopes SCIMUN XI will be an unforgettable experience for everyone.

Roy Kim
Deputy Secretary General
Roy Kim is a junior at QSI International School of Shenzhen. He is from South Korea, and this is his fifth year participating in MUN. Since middle school, he has been passionate about MUN, attending various conferences and earning multiple Best Delegate awards. He served as Secretary in SCIMUN X and has been President of the MUN club since last year. Outside of MUN, Roy is a member of several honor societies, including SNHS, NHS, and the Student Council. As Deputy Secretary-General, he will once again diligently serve the esteemed SCIMUN conference and put forth his utmost effort to ensure the success of SCIMUN XI.

Jane Yoon
Chief of Staff
Jane Yoon is a senior at QSI Shenzhen from Seoul, South Korea. With prior experience as both a runner and a delegate at SCIMUN, Jane Yoon has developed a deep appreciation for the conference, where students are motivated to engage in discussion and share their perspectives on global issues as representatives of their respective countries. This passion for SCIMUN led her to serve as Chief of Staff. She intends to foster effective collaboration with runners and cabinet members, ensuring the event is carried out without any issues.

Polina Gutnik
Chief of Marketing
Polina Gutnik is currently a junior at QSI International School of Shenzhen, and she has been studying at QSI for many years. Having previously been a delegate in the past SCIMUN conferences since middle school, she has gained experience and familiarity that enhances her ability to organize and contribute to this event. In addition to SCIMUN, Polina is also the vice president of Laos Literacy Project Club and treasurer of the Fundraising Club. She is looking forward to serve as the Chief of Marketing for SCIMUN X under the theme of "Minds in Motion".

Rebecca Ke
Chief of Finance
Rebecca Ke is a senior at QSI International School of Shenzhen and has been part of the QSI community for many years. Having previously participated as both a delegate and a chair in past SCIMUN conferences, she has gained valuable experience and viewed the event from multiple perspectives, strengthening her ability to contribute to its success. Last year, Rebecca held the position of Chief of Marketing for SCIMUN X, and this year she is excited to take on the role of Chief of Finance for her final SCIMUN conference under the theme of “Minds in Motion”.

Justin Lin
Chief of Press
Meet Justin Lin, a senior at QSI Shenzhen and our returning Chief of Press. Born in China, Justin's passion for storytelling through film, photography, and editing is matched by his leadership. Now in his third year with the press team, he has the technical expertise and collaborative spirit to inspire his team, make right decisions, and guide peers. Justin is incredibly enthusiastic and ready to make SCIMUN XI another success.

Dora Wang
Secretary
Dora Wang is a sophomore at QSI International School of Shenzhen. She has been participating in MUN since middle school and have received multiple awards. Apart from SCIMUN, she is also the founder and president of the Debate Club at QSI and is a member of Mu Alpha Theta. She is dedicated to serving as secretary and collaborating with cabinet members to host SCIMUN XI.

Supervisor
Navika Sukdeo is an IB Environmental Sciences and Biology instructor at the QSI International School of Shenzhen. This is her second year as the supervisor of SCIMUN, and she is enthusiastic to immerse herself in the world of Model United Nations and lend her support to all student participants of SCIMUN X. She is excited to see what experiences the event will bring this year, and she is positive that the conference will flourish.
